Everyone talks about the last montage in SFU and I get it because that finale was just, a beautiful piece of work. But there’s a better scene in that season. Stay with me: Nate’s funeral.

David is so railed with grief and PTSD from being kidnapped that he can’t even get out of the car.  And Ruth comes, because she refuses to grieve her son alone, she basically grieved her husband alone and she is NOT doing this by herself, nope. And she makes him  get out of the car and climb up the hill so he can say goodbye to the first person he ever came out to, his business partner, his best friend, his big brother. He goes to read  Nate’s chosen poem and he can’t even bring himself to start the first line. So Aunt Sarah takes it, and David, just…….loses it. Clean cut, by the book, David, who pours dirt on graves out of shakers and escorts emotional attendees into private quarters, who avoids messy emotions like the plague, absolutely loses it, and it’s beautiful.
